I’ve been using Claude on my personal projects for about three months. I’m on the standard plan, so the session token limit is far smaller than what I’m used to at work, where I ship a ton of code and have never once hit a session or weekly limit.

On my personal projects, that smaller limit has quietly become my Pomodoro. I work flat out until I burn through the session, and the 3-4 hour reset becomes my cooldown whether I like it or not. (I usually play the hell out of StarCraft 2 during the cooldown.) The token budget is the timer, and running out is the bell telling me to step away.

It has worked so well that most days I find myself looking forward to my own projects after a day of work, and it’s even started carrying me through weekends feeling productive. The best part is that the limit is a dial I can turn. When my mental capacity is low, I lean harder on the agent, spend the budget faster, and let it end early so I can rest. When I have more in the tank, I do more of the work myself and stretch the session out to give my brain some much-needed exercise. Either way it feels like a win-win.
